A view of cart #2. Back in 1987 the ARco PV panels were 300 bucks each. Now days you can get Kyocera KC-40T - 43 Watt Solar Panels for $300, but less when on sale. I saw $262. What with inflation they cost less. I have no idae what regulators went for in 1987. As I mentioned the Heart inverter was 450 bucks. But now days pure sine waves, such as Exeltech XP600 12-volt 600 watt sine wave inverter, made in USA are $540 bucks on sale. But the Samlex 600 Watt 12 Volt Sine Wave Inverter can be had for $244 on sale. Although it's listed by the manufacturer as 'light duty". Exceltech sez you can drive a hummer over thier products and generally abuse them. New fangled inverters dont come with chassis connected 2 guage cables like the Heart did. So I think my Heart is still a good value. but for running lights and tansformer equipted electronics and AC power tools. I aint a millionaire so future inverters are the offshore Samplex line. Maybe, maybe i'll buy one Exceltech. $300 for panel, $50 for cart, $35 regulator, $244 inverter,$160 (2) batteries, switches, wires, misc hardware $50 tops. Lt us say $900 for a probable minium and maybe $1300 for a probable maxium. Live off the grid a little every day and be prepared for any temporary grid failures. Maybe save a soldiers's life, stick it to the man, go green. it's ineresting that the only disposable items are the batteries.
