Here is a close up of the photovoltic panel. It is an ARco
model M65. Rated at 45 watts, 3.11 amps DC, 14.5 volts max at 25 degrees
Celsius. As I mentioned earlier, the panel was purchased in 1987 and was stored
unused until December 2007. This panel is not available but there are other
manufacturers who make very similiar panels. 13% efficency. Silicon only absorbs
a narrow range of the sun's spectrum in the near infrared. Panel technolgy hasnt
changed much. Although they have panels with triple the efficency, they cost six
times as much. They say there are cheap low effcency panels of 5% but i never
seen them. All PV panels should have aluminum frames and wafers mounted behind
glazing and encapsulated to be water proof. The industry standard warranty is 25
years.
